In a matter of days in March 2020, access and user services workers across the country found themselves moving from busy in-person library environments to working from home to provide services to our communities. Some libraries had extensive plans in place for managing a major service disruption, while others were forced to make many more decisions on-the-fly than first anticipated. In this session, well reflect on the varied responses from our institutions and share some best practices we can carry forward to support our staff, faculty, and students in an emergency. We will consider how to draft a business continuity plan that includes advocating for technology needs for staff to work from home, resources for managing suddenly-remote teams, communication plans for messaging with our user communities, and principles for conducting a post-event review and analysis to revise documentation and procedures for responding to future emergencies.
