Slingerland Screening Skills Short Class - Online Fall 2021
September 15 - 29, 2021

Identifying Children's Needs

EXPLORE how to IDENTIFY, COMPARE, COMMUNICATE and PLAN using the Slingerland screening techniques.   We are pleased to announce the Slingerland Screening Skills Short Class - ONLINE

This virtual class is an introduction to the Slingerland Screening Procedures for students.  These procedures help identify students with specific language disabilities.  The tests aid in identifying children whose current language difficulties may continue beyond periods of development or maturational lag and become persistent specific language disabilities in later grades.

Classes will be held via Zoom at 4:00 to 8:30 pm (PT) on the following dates:

  • Session 1 - Wednesday, September 15
  • Session 2 - Wednesday, September 22
  • Session 3 - Wednesday, September 29

Participants must attend all sessions and submit the assigned projects to satisfactorily complete the class.

In this 12.5 hour class you will work with the four main elementary school screening levels.  Specifically you will learn:

Screening Skills Class Content:

  • How to use the Slingerland Screening Procedures for referral or remediation.
  • How these screenings can reveal important information about a student’s learning patterns.
  • How to identify strengths and weaknesses in language learning for every child in your classroom.
  • How these strengths and weaknesses impact reading, handwriting, written and oral expression and spelling.
  • How to compare auditory, visual and kinesthetic-motor performance.
  • How paraprofessionals can assist in the screening and scoring process.

This 12.5 hour class is also approved for continuing education units through the University of San Diego. The credits are not part of a degree program and are at the option of the teacher/participant.  Enrollment for USD credit will open June 1, 2021.

The Slingerland® Approach Short Classes focus on specific components of the comprehensive training. They provide practical tools for teachers, parents, or paraprofessionals who work with children who need a multisensory approach to learning. No practicum is included with the short class.

The Slingerland class dates/location list is always being updated so please continue to check the events page on our website to see the complete list of current classes (events page). All classes require a minimum of 8 participants. A class may be cancelled due to low enrollment.
