MEA Professional Development (PD) is our member-driven and member-led educator training program. Through it, we offer free, on-site continuing education sessions, including essential relicensure courses, professional practice in the classroom, and racial and social justice trainings.

This event is free to attend for Education Minnesota members, and they are not paid for their time. Education Minnesota will reimburse mileage to and from the St. Paul office for this event. You will also be provided with dinner on Friday, as well as breakfast and lunch on Saturday. If you live more than 35+ miles from the Sherburne office, we will also provide you with a hotel reservation for Friday night. 


After this two-day workshop, you will be certified to lead Education Minnesota Professional Development trainings for your colleagues and other Education Minnesota members throughout the state while also earning extra income!

Judy has been a reading specialist for over 20 years. She is passionate about helping teachers maximize their skills so that ALL students learn to read. Outside of education, she loves kickboxing, musical theatre, and spending time with friends!

Melissa spent 14 years as a teacher & peer coach in Bloomington. Her many reflective conversations provided context to our educator needs, motivating her to join EdMN where she facilitates programs that support the whole-person-needs of our members.

Samantha is a new organizer with EdMN, after 10 years as a school counselor, and got involved with the suicide prevention training right away. In her free time, she loves spending time with her kids and catching a basketball or volleyball game.

Tatiana is originally from Chile. She is a literacy coach working with teachers who provide foundational reading skills to young children. All of her work is done with a racial lens which gives her the light in her heart to never give up.

Lindsey is a former EL and reading interventionist at Mahtomedi Public Schools. She believes literacy is a social justice issue and is dedicated to bringing evidence-based practices to all classrooms.

This course will introduce strategies of culturally responsive teaching through a racial justice lens and how you can challenge and disrupt the systems, policies and pedagogy that has perpetuated systemic racism.
This session will focus on best practices in the area of suicide prevention.
Participants will leave this session with tangible strategies that help us maximize our collective impact in schools while building an environment together that fosters better outcomes for our students.

Equity work is a journey and in this session we will lay the foundation for centering equity work in your community. Participants will ground themselves with norms and vocabulary, and develop an understanding of the importance of intercultural competency.

In this workshop we will have an opportunity to unpack the characteristics of our white supremacy culture, as we explore its meaning, its impact, and what it takes to interrupt these characteristics in our life, organization, and our society.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the circle process and reflect on the benefits of restorative practices in learning communities. Participants will also reflect on how to adopt restorative practices.
Participants will review the research and exemplary practices that help students acquire strong reading comprehension skills.

Participants will learn about the basic tenants of Judaism, the roots of antisemitism and specific tools to help disrupt this alarming culture of hate.
This session will focus on best practices in the area of suicide prevention.
The course provides an overview of the original ACEs study, defines key terms and explores, at a basic level, how trauma impacts the developing brain.
