No matter what stage of community school development you are in, gathering, analyzing, and communicating about your data is a foundational practice. Whether it’s undergoing a formal assets and needs assessment process, gauging the impact of an external partnership, or measuring progress towards goals, community school practitioners work with data all the time.
…Or do they?
“Data” can mean different things to different people. Each of us has a different comfort level with gathering, analyzing and using data, and many of us aren’t engaging with our data as much as we could (and know that we should)–especially if we’re only doing it to check a box. If any of this sounds familiar, we have a learning opportunity for you!
Facilitated by the Community Schools Learning Exchange (CSLX) and Public Profit, the Community School Building Blocks: Assets and Needs Assessment Learning Series is a virtual offering designed to help community school practitioners across roles, and of all stages of development, understand the different types of data that are important to community school development, learn and practice strategies for gathering, analyzing and digging deeper into data, and make an action plan for using data to drive equity and effective interest holder engagement.

What is Community School Building Blocks?
CSLX’s Community School Building Blocks sessions are designed to offer essential grounding in the critical elements of community school development. Other Community School Building Blocks sessions may focus on the role of the Community School Coordinator, Advisory Councils, and more.
Who, specifically, is this for?
The Community School Building Blocks: Assets and Needs Assessment Learning Series is designed for school-site and LEA level individuals who are thinking about or working directly with data and are eager to learn how to make their data collection, analysis, and reporting more useful, nuanced and equity-grounded. You’ll learn some new strategies, practice new skills, and share your own tips and practices.
I attended the single needs assessment workshop on April 30th, 2024. Should I still attend this one?
You are welcome to join the session if you’d like a refresher. While many of the concepts in session #1 of this series match what you learned in our April 30th workshop, we included more time to process data with other participants. You can also ask your colleagues to join you on October 3, 2024, so you all have a shared understanding of the use of equity-driven data strategies in community school development.
Who from my team should I bring?
Bring colleagues who work on the ground to lead your community school strategy at school sites. These can be community school coordinators, principals, teachers, and/or those at the district-level that lead your community school initiatives. So we can ensure a meaningful and engaging virtual experience for all our participants, we humbly ask Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to limit attendance from their LEA to 10 people.
How much does it cost and what is included?
The fee for each individual is $250 per session. Individuals can also choose to buy a package of all three sessions for a reduced rate of $695. Those coming with their teams should pay a registration fee for each person who is attending.
I have a group of people from my team/LEA who want to attend. Should we just register individually for these virtual learning sessions?
If you’d like a large team of more than 10 people to go through this training together, contact us at love@cslx.org so we can help you determine what type of opportunity might be the most impactful for your team.
Will workshops be recorded?
The workshop presentation and group community share-outs will be recorded and shared with workshop registrants after the workshop. Breakout group discussions held during each workshop will not be recorded. Recordings will be shared within a week after the workshop and will be available for 30 days.
How can I access the tools and materials we discuss once we’re done?
Registered participants will receive the materials and resources we cover through a shared Google Drive folder.
We haven’t conducted our Assets and Needs Assessment yet. Should I still attend?
Yes! This workshop is designed for anyone who works with and thinks about data and/or their Assets and Needs Assessment journey – read: almost everyone that is part of community school work. Having conducted an Assets and Needs Assessment is not a condition for access!
I’m looking for personalized support with my Assets and Needs Assessment. Will I get that here?
No. This is a participatory, introductory session that is designed to give you the tools, strategies, and resources to guide your community school development work. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to share out about your individual contexts during small group breakouts, but no individualized support.
What if I want more one-on-one support?
We’d love to hear more! Just send us a note at love@cslx.org so we can discuss other options that might enable us to provide you with more individualized support on your assets and needs assessment and asset mapping processes.
What if I can no longer attend and need to cancel my registration? Will I get a refund?
October 3rd Session: Cancellations must be made by Thursday, September 19, 2024.
November 14th Session: Cancellations must be made by Monday, October 14, 2024
