Gilbert Riparian Preserve - Camino Stroll
Easy Stroll Along Shaded Paths in Riparian Preserve
January 25, 2025  ·  FAR EAST Corner of the Library Parking Lot
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM (MT)
This will be an easy 3 mile stroll with coffee and conversation afterwards. Like all of our strolls through March, the pace will be social and the purpose is to have lots of conversation about the Camino and to provide an opportunity for questions and answers. Unlike the hikes that help prepare for the physical side of the Camino, these strolls will help with the mental preparation and ideally alleviate anxiety.

The Gilbert Riparian Preserve is a unique place in the Valley with ponds that attract all kinds of birds and a nice mostly shaded dirt path to beat the heat. This area is worth the trip where more than 300 species of birds have been seen, plus a cute petting zoo and a pair of bald eagles. You are welcome to bring your binoculars but if you are a birder seeking frequent stops, plan on coming back to spend more time at this great birding spot.
If you are preparing for a pilgrimage, this is a great walking area with shade, perfect for laps OR increase the miles by parking at Crossroads District Park and walk north on the Eastern Canal (3 miles) and join us for the start of the walk.

Tina completed the Camino Frances from St Jean Pied de Port in Spring of 2018. She used Camino Ways to handle logistics and baggage transfers and stayed in hotels. She also walked to Burgos, then biked to Astorga (the Meseta) before walking on to Santiago. She is currently one of the coordinators for the chapter. She is planning on walking the last 100km to Santiago with her mom and also biking the Way of St Frances - from Florence to Assisi - this spring.
